A Shoshone Indian tribe lived near the lower falls. The spirit
of a female Shoshoni Indian haunts the Lower Mesa Falls. Dressed
in white she can be seen in the cascading water. She's said
be the spirit of a girl who drowned trying to rescue a loved
one caught in the rushing river. Now, she seems to warn people
of the dangerous currents beneath the falls. While visiting
lower Mesa Falls you may also hear the drumbeat of the tribe. |
